The Summer Research Fellowship Programme 2012 short listed 85 students from leading institutes in Bengal
Kolkata:The Summer Research Fellowship Programme-2012 sponsored by the Indian Academy of Sciences, Indian National Science Academy and the National Academy of Sciences selected students from leading institutes from Bengal.
Commencing from June, this programme selected 1315 candidates from all over the country, out of which 85 are from Bengal. The selected students belong to premier institutions of the state like Indian Statistical Institute, Jadavpur University, Calcutta University, Presidency University, St Xavier’s College, Heritage Institute of Technology-Kolkata (HITK), Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, University College of Science, Technology and Agriculture, Bidhannagar College, West Bengal University of Technology and Ashutosh College among others.
The students will get the opportunity to conduct research in seven categories of science and technology – earth and planetary sciences, physics, mathematics, life sciences, engineering, chemistry and agricultural science. This fellowship programme is organised to encourage research among students.
During this two-month programme, research students will get a stipend of approximately Rs 7,000 and additional allowances for travelling and other purposes. Students will be conducting research on their chosen topic under the guidance of the experts selected by them while submitting their application forms. After completing their research, students will submit their reports and presentation.
“This opportunity is the stepping stone towards the world of research and it would give a boost to my career,” said Sayantan Ghosh, one of the four selected candidates from Heritage Institute of Technology. He said he would be conducting research on “the effects of hpylori on gastric cancer”. The highest number of students has been selected from the Indian Institute of Science Education & Research.

Social responsibility is also a part of education beyond classrooms

Heritage has blossomed smiles on millions of poor people....
