"CONFERO 2012" battles on the essence of International Education for success

On 30th January 2012, the Heritage School Kolkata organized "CONFERO 2012" an Interschool Debate Competition which was participated by 12 schools across the city. The main theme of the Debate was "Is International Education pre-requisite of success for an individual?"

 Nearly 46 teams across well reputed schools of Kolkata participated in the competition which included 96 students. Education today is a much more challenging and dynamic process that aims to equip young students with necessary skills to adapt to the changing needs of a global environment. Speech and communications form an integral part of this process. With a view to provide the students with a common platform to share these skills, "CONFERO-2012" was organized and it was participated by The Heritage School, St Xaviers Collegiate School, La Martiniere School for Boys, La Martiniere School for Girls, Birla High School for Boys, Sushila Birla High school for Girls, Lakshmipat Singhania Academy, Mahadevi Birla Girls High School, South Point School, Delhi Public School New Town, Delhi Public School Megacity and B.D. Memorial Institute.
The day started at 10:00 am with the preliminary round for the final debate competition. Students of various schools prepared for the topics in the laboratories, libraries and the AV rooms of the Heritage School. The preliminary round focused on some of the brilliant topics like social networking is robbing our social skills and many more. Finally after a marathon selection in the prelims, seven schools were selected for the final round of the Debate Competition. Those schools were BD Memorial Institute, Sushila Birla Girls High School, La Martiniere Girls School, The Heritage School, St Xaviers Collegiate School, Birla School for Boys and Delhi Public School. The topic for the final round focused on the essence of International Education for the youth of India. Many of the students spoke that international education gives a wider horizon to the career of a student while others spoke that international education is not so much necessary as many prominent and famous icons of the nation are still successful without international education. Finally the first prize was won by La Martiniere school of Girls followed by the second prize which was won by The St Xaviers Collegiate School and the third prize was conquered by The Heritage School. Shri H K Chaudhary, secretary of Kalyan Bharti Trust ( the promoters of Heritage School), Executive Director Shri Probir Roy and CEO of the trust Shri Pradip Agarwal finally handed over the first prize of the debate which was named as "The Mahendra Swarup Memorial Trophy" (in the memoir of our beloved Chairman Shri Mahendra Swarup), to the students of La- Martiniere school. Ms Ritika Biswas of La Martiniere School was chosen as the best speaker for the day. The event was judged and moderated by Mr. Ashoke Viswanathan eminent film director, Dr Kunal Sirkar eminent cardiologist, Ms Purnima Dutta eminent NGO activist, Mr Rohit Pombra a reputed business man, Ms Oindrilla Dutta, Ms Debarshi Barat an eminent lawyer, Mr Tathagata Choudhury eminent theatrician & Ms. Nivedita Bhattacharya eminent publisher.

Film and photography festival

EU’s Erasmus Mundus programmes introduced @ Heritage
