The FDP was sponsored by Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP) Phase-II, which gave a platform for all the young faculty members to upgrade their knowledge on wireless networking towards further research and development.

“Wireless Networking is revolutionizing our lives. The concept had originated from Kolkata in 1894 when Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose coined an experiment to generate and transmit electromagnetic wave. Also the Galena Based Semi-conductor detector discovered by J C Bose formed the base of such technology used in present time,” said Prof. Ray during the inaugural session of the FDP. Moreover Prof. Ray, stressed on the security and power management aspects in wireless networking which are the happening areas in this subject. “Switching and leakage current are the basics issues in optimizing energy in wireless networking,”
said Prof. Ray. Apart from this, he also gave an example of intelligent cameras which are installed in managing road traffic in USA for surveillance. “Currently in this subject which is a critical part of electronic and communication engineering, multi-parameter optimization is required,” said Prof. Ray.

The session was also contributed by Prof. Bhabani P. Sinha, who is currently the Dean of Studies, Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) Kolkata where he spoke about applications and implications of Wireless networking. He gave the examples of cordless telephones, cellular mobile networks, cognitive radio networks, vehicular networks and many more. Moreover on the same day, Prof. Arobinda Gupta, Prof. IIT Kharagpur, also contributed in the session.

During next two days, the FDP would be contributed by Prof. Sipra Dasbit, Prof. BESU, Prof. Krishnendu Mukhopadhyay, Prof. ISI Kolkata, Prof. Nabanita Das, Prof. ISI Kolkata and Prof. Bhaskar Sardar, Prof. Jadavpur University. Among the participants, more than 21 faculty members were form different technical institutions in West Bengal. The inaugural session was also contributed by Prof. B.B Paira, Director, Heritage Institute of technology (HIT-K), Prof. Pranay Chaudhuri, Principal, HIT-K, Prof. D.C.
