Xaviers wins ELASTICO-2012 with Heritage as Runner-up


Kolkata : Kolkata is still known for dynamic football players in the nation and

people here love football in every aspect of their lives.  This was not at all different in Heritage Institute of Technology Kolkata, when the students’ council of the institute organized Inter-college Football Tournament Elastico-2012 on 7th April. This was a 4 -day tournament which was participated by 11 eminent colleges of Bengal namely Marine Engineering and Research Institute (MERI), Presidency University, St. Thomas Institute of Technology, Heritage Institute of technology, Camellia Institute of technology and Management (CITM), The Heritage Academy, RCC Institute of Information Technology (RCCIT), Techno India Rajarhat, St. Xaviers College, Future Institute of Engineering and Management (FIEM) and Guru Nanak Institute of technology (GNIT).
“This time we have organized an inter-college tournament on our own and we aspire to spark the sense of good sportsman in ourselves,” said Satadri Chanda, the captain, of the football team of Heritage and also an active member of the Students’

Council. Moreover during the four days, starting from 7th April to 10th April, there were 10 matches played in the preliminary rounds in 4 groups and 12 teams. The semi-finals and the final match had been conducted on 10th April which had been an exciting day for the youth. The schedule of the matches played from 7th April to 9th April along with the results mentioned below:-
7th April
1.        MERI Vs St Thomas Institute of Technology- Draw
2.        Heritage- Group A Vs CITM- Draw
3.        Heritage-Group B Vs FIEM- Heritage won by 1 goal
8th April:-
1.        CITM Vs. The Heritage Academy- CITM won by 3 goals
2.        RCCIT Vs Techno India- RCCIT won by 4 goals
3.        Heritage –Group B Vs GNIT- Heritage won by 1 goal
4.        Presidency University Vs St Thomas Institute of technology- ST. Thomas won by 1 goal
On 9th April:-
1.        RCCIT Vs ST. Xaviers College- St Xaviers won by 1 goal
2.        Techno India Vs St Xaviers College- Techno India won by 4 goals
3.        Heritage Group A Vs The Heritage Academy- Heritage Group A won by 4 goals

However it was also noted that apart from leading tech institutes in Kolkata, the tournament was actively participated by eminent colleges & universities like St. Xaviers College & Presidency University.
“Planning for this event started well before and our students took the entire initiative to make this event a grand success,” said Mr. Sunil Singh, Sports Head of Heritage Institute of Technology. The students also managed to gather referees from IFA Referee Association.
On 10th April the Semi-finals had started at 1:00 pm in the following schedule:-
Heritage –Group A Vs Heritage-Group-B where Heritage Group A had won by 1 goal
St Thomas Vs. St Xaviers where ST. Xaviers had won by 1 goal

The final had been conducted at 3:30 pm between St. Xaviers College and Heritage Institute of Technology and at last St. Xaviers College won the Match by 1 goal leaving Heritage in the runner-up position.
The Man of the tournament was won by Ongyal Tshering Lepcha of St. Xaviers, Best Goal Scorer trophy was won by Zamyad Meherji of St Xaviers, Man of the Match was won by Zamyad Meherji of St. Xaviers and Best Goal Keeper Trophy was won by Soubhik Biswas of Heritage Institute of technology.

Film and photography festival

EU’s Erasmus Mundus programmes introduced @ Heritage
