Padmashree Shri B. Bhattacharya and former Director, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre inaugarates Seminar on Disaster Management at Kolkata

On 26th Feb. 2010, an informative seminar is being inaugurated by Padmashree Shri B. Bhattacharya at Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata. Shri B. Bhattacharya is currently the member of Nuclear and Radiological Emergency, National Disaster Management Authority, Government of India and was the former director of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre.

A Seminar on "Disaster Management" was organized at Heritage Institute of Technology on 26th Feb. 2010. The Seminar was formally inaugurated by Padmashree B. Bhattacharya, Hon'ble Member of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). In his key note address he spoke about the role of Science and Technology in Holistic Management of Disaster. Shri Bhattacharya presented an excellent presentation on the boons of Science and technology in Predicting Disasters in the Nation. Before the key note address Prof. B.B. Paira, Director HIT welcomed the Chief Guest and other eminent speakers present and explained the basic objective of organizing such type of seminar related to Disaster Management and gave an insight to the topic for the noble cause for which the college sustains.

Shri H.K. Chaudhary, Secretary Kalyan Bharti Trust also elaborately explained about type and principle of disaster management along with the role of society and other agencies in the Management of the Disaster. The seminar also depicted the preventive measures on Disaster Management with latest trends in Science and Technology which can help in predicting Disasters well in advance and can help to rescue the society.. The seminar was also contributed by eminent speakers such as Dr. Sutapa Chowdhury, HOD, Atmospheric Science Department, Calcutta University, Dr. Sivabrata Chatterjee, Former Member, Expert Committee, Ministry of Environment and Forest, Govt. of India and Dr. Anup Kumar Ghosh, Member, Centre of Polymers Management, IIT Delhi. Prof. Sutapa Roy spoke on the methods of prediction of natural disaster with specific reference to storm. Prof. Joyshree Roy presented the paper on the need of revisiting the strategies of Disaster Management. Dr. Sivabrata Chatterjee, Former Member, Expert Committee, Ministry of Environment and Forest, Govt. of India presented the paper on Bhopal Gas Strategy.
The seminar was attended by more than 100 delegates from various corporate houses, students and faculties of HIT. Among them the prominent were Emami, Vikram India, Patton, United World School of Business, IBMR, IBRAD, Future Institute of Engineering and Management, Megaflex, Dippon, Cico technologies etc. The very outstanding feature of the seminar was a video clipping presentation on Disaster Management by Mr. Rahul Khandelwal of MBA 1st Year student of Management Education Center of HIT. At the end Prof. Paira distributed the certificates to all the participating delegates and the seminar ended with vote of thanks presented by Prof Aloke Sen, Director, Management Education Center, HIT, Kolkata.

EU’s Erasmus Mundus programmes introduced @ Heritage
