National Conference on Green Energy and Sustainable Development" organized by Heritage Institute of Technology, Kolkata with the support of WBREDA

The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Bibek Bandopadhyay, Advisor & Head, Solar Energy Centre, MNRE, Govt. of India. He was accompanied by many respectable dignitaries including Mr. S. P. Gon Chaudhari, MD, WBGEDCL & Chairperson, National Advisory Committee, and NCGESD.

The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Bibek Bandopadhyay, Advisor & Head, Solar Energy Centre, MNRE, Govt. of India. He was accompanied by many respectable dignitaries including Mr. S. P. Gon Chaudhari, MD, WBGEDCL & Chairperson, National Advisory Committee, and NCGESD. The presence of Mr. H. K. Chaudhary, Chairman, Vikram Solar & Secretary of Kalyan Bharti Trust added to the stature of this national event. Other experts in the field of renewable energy like Dr. S. N. Dave, WASH Specialist, UNICEF and Dr. T. Chakraborty, Director, NEERI were present.

The programme started with a melodious note by Swami (Prof-Dr) Vejadananda, Organising Secretary, NCGESD, President, VIEM and Professor, Heritage Institute of Technology. This was followed by warm welcome by Prof. B. B.
Paira, Director, Heritage Institute of technology and Chairman, Local Organizing Committee. There were as many as 3 plenary and 1 keynote sessions dedicated to green energy applications, green fuels and sustainable development. Parallel technical sessions also portrayed the current research work conducted by young scientists and researchers form Jadavpur University, NEERI, Bengal Engineering and Science University, NIT Durgapur, IIT Guwahati, Central Glass and ceramic Research Institute and other CSIR laboratories. An exhibition of Renewable energy products was inaugurated by Mr. Sushobhon Bhattacharya, Director, and WBREDA. Prof. Biswajit Ghosh, Director, School of Energy Studies has delivered an invaluable lecture in the keynote session by Prof. Samiran Choudhary, Former President, institution of Engineers ( India). All India Council members of Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers including Prof. A. K. Saroha, Editor, Indian Chemical Engineers, Dr. Y.J. Rao and Prof. R.C. Dixit Chaired Technical sessions and delivered their address.
A cultural program on renewable energy was organized in the vening of the first day which had a blend of dance and music. The valedictory session was graced by Prof. V. K. Srivastava, President, IICE, Guest-in-Chief, it was chaired by Prof. B. B. Paira, Director Heritage Institute of Technology. Prof Arunabha Mazumdar, Vice President, VIEM summed up the session.

There were discussions and quiz contests on Swamiji. A sit-and-draw competition was also held. Sonali Bose of Beliaghata Deshbandhu Girls’ High school topped the elocution contest while Satarupa Dutta of Heritage Institute of Technology stood second. The cultural programme consisted of song and dance performances. Blankets and monetary help were distributed amongst the poor and needy.
